Every time a comic steps onto stage, he is entering
a form of battle. It's very much like an old fashioned
duel between the comedian and the audience - you need
to watch your opponent, study them, and if you lunge
at just the right moment, your joke will strike home.
Of course, it's all pretty ridiculous if you're
riding into battle with nothing but a stick and Mom's
